Direct Guard Services knows the best way to ensure quality and value is to put the best possible candidates into our security guard positions. A screening process has been designed that is professionally executed. Together with our training programs, it helps to produce knowledgeable and reliable security officers. At Direct Guard, we want to make sure our security services set off on the right path, exceeding client satisfaction.

The following are tactics implemented for a security guard pre-employment screening and verification:

  • Proper vetting and background screening
  • Security clearance requirements
  • Drug testing
  • Age verification
  • Employment status confirmation
  • Education verification
  • In-person interviews
  • Skill-testing exams
officer screening

At Direct Guard Services we firmly believe that our employee selection process and background screening is of critical importance to our operations team in who will work at our client sites. Matching the right people to the right environment leads to more engaged and therefore, more long-term employees who are familiar with our client sites and security operations.

The steps we take during our security guard screening process include:
Comprehensive Background Check

1.)  State Criminal Check

All Direct Guard supervisors and security guards must possess valid guard card from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).  Prior to the interview process with Direct Guard Services, our HR Department makes sure potential candidates hold an active guard card.

The bureau requires that individuals employed as a security guard must be at least eighteen years of age. Security guards have state-mandated training requirements. In order to become a licensed guard card holder, candidates must undergo a criminal background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

2.)  Initial Interview

During the interview process, our HR Manager and Site Supervisor conduct the initial interview. Throughout this process they will determine if the candidate will be the right fit for the site they are being interviewed for. The HR Manager and Supervisor analyze the candidate’s ethics, attentiveness, demonstration of problem solving skills, and response to emergency situations. Prospective employee will also undergo a skills test.

3.)  Security Guard Reference Check

If the HR Manager and Supervisor determine to hire the security guard, our HR Manager will conduct a personal and previous employment reference check. Once the reference checks have been cleared the security guard will go through the last screening process.

4.)  Comprehensive Background Check

The final step in our rigorous and thorough security guard screening process is the comprehensive background check. During this process, our HR Department runs an extensive background check through a third party data base. The purpose of this comprehensive and final background check is to provide the following essential information:

  • SSN Locator
  • Education & Employment Verification
  • National Criminal Data Base Search
  • Sex Offender Registry Records
  • Motor Vehicle Records
  • Terrorist Watch List Search
  • Drug Screening History

As a licensed security guard company, Direct Guard Services knows that security guards are the first line of defense if something should happen. Our clients put the safety of their employees, customers, and property in our hands. Considering what’s at stake, a background check is a small price to show our clients our security guards are up to the task.
